Our project concerned a complete fireplace renovation. We were asked to replace an old stove that was oversized for the fireplace and to refurbish and fix the fireplace surround. We carried out an extensive survey and consulted with the client over every aspect of the process.
The original opening was also not square and the plaster had cracked and pealed away. We carefully removed the very old surround and enlarged the fireplace opening and finished the interior with a lime rendering.
The room is open plan and is in the centre of the house, our client was therefore extremely cautious about dust spreading through the house, with it being a large room we built a gazebo and masked the area off to keep disruption and dust to a minimum.
We then replaced the hearth with a local slate and matched the interior slips to the surround. The surround had a large section on top which made the fireplace dominate the room so it was decided to remove the upper section and to finish and refit the surround to tone it down.
The client was immensely pleased with the entire procedure and the end result.
